Presider is the person who:

makes sure that the room and equipment are ready for the presenters
checks on focus of the LCD projector and helps presenters get their presentations uploaded on one computer (one presenter needs to share his/her computer)
makes a time plan with the presenters on the number of minutes each presenter has for the presentation
starts the session promptly and introduces the speakers
serves as a timekeeper, and facilitates discussion, assuring equitable involvement of audience, and closes the session on time

Discussant is the person who:

reads the papers before the session and has remarks prepared ahead of time
performs presider duties if there is not a separate presider
after the presentation, makes brief and cogent remarks on each paper with suggestions for future research.

Assessor is the person who:

reviews NARST proposals assigned to him/her by the strand coordinator
provides comments that are constructive for the proposers, to help them improve the paper before presentation or provide helpful advice for revision for a submission in a later year
submits reviews on-line by the deadline provided.
